Status
TMS is not yet available at Foundry. We're preparing to offer it at 6 County Road, Suite 2, Mattapoisett, and haven't set a start date. To find out whether TMS might fit, start with an evaluation.
How we plan to run a course
A consultation will review the medications you've tried and handle prior authorization. Strength will be built up gradually in the first week, coil placement recorded so every session is set up the same way, a clinician will check in during week 2, and a short questionnaire will be completed weekly. A full course is usually 30 to 36 sessions over six to nine weeks, most often five days a week.
Side effects and safety
The most common side effects are headache and scalp discomfort, usually in the first week. Seizures are rare: older estimates put them at about 1 in 30,000 sessions. Before a course, patients are screened for metal implants in or near the head and other risk factors. Sources: Chen L, et al. Am J Psychiatry. 2025;182(6):525-541. McClintock SM, et al. Cost and insurance
Most commercial plans cover TMS for depression with prior authorization when their criteria are met, usually including a diagnosis of major depression and several antidepressant trials that didn't help enough.
